Hyderabad: Former minister and MLA Harish Rao on Thursday accused the Congress government of crippling municipalities and abandoning urban development across Telangana.
He said anti-people policies and unfulfilled promises had angered leaders and workers. As a result, many were shifting towards the BRS party.
Speaking at his residence in the city, Harish Rao said several key leaders from Sangareddy, Narsapur, and Patancheru constituencies joined the BRS in large numbers.
Meanwhile, Sangareddy MLA Chinta Prabhakar, Narsapur MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy, Patancheru BRS in-charge Adarsh Reddy, and other senior leaders attended the programme.
Harish Rao said the previous BRS government released funds every month under the Pattana Pragathi programme. Consequently, towns saw steady development.
However, he alleged that the Congress government had not released even a single rupee after coming to power.
Congress crippling municipalities hits civic services
According to Harish Rao, municipalities now lack funds even to spray bleaching powder or clear garbage. As a result, sanitation conditions have worsened across towns.
He further said the mosquito menace had increased, leading to a rise in illnesses. Moreover, he claimed that streetlights were not functioning in many areas.
In addition, he alleged frequent cuts in drinking water supply. He said the government failed to provide basic infrastructure even in industrial zones like Isnapur and Gummadidala.
Harish Rao accused the Congress of making 420 promises only to capture power. However, he claimed the government had failed to implement even the six guarantees.
He said people were questioning the government over unfulfilled promises to women, youth, and farmers.
He also alleged that the government stopped issuing Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak cheques. Besides this, he said Dalit Bandhu and BC Bandhu schemes were pushed aside.
According to him, delays continued in pension distribution as well. Therefore, he accused the government of ignoring the welfare of the poor.
Harish Rao said people were closely observing what he described as deceptive governance. Meanwhile, he expressed confidence ahead of municipal elections.
He said the BRS would win all municipalities in the united Medak district. He added that the party would secure victories in Sangareddy, Narsapur, and Patancheru.
Finally, Harish Rao urged party leaders and workers to take the failures of the Congress government door to door and mobilise public opinion.
