Gudemdoddi Reservoir capacity to rise from 1.19 TMC to 15 TMC

Hyderabad: The Telangana government approved a major expansion of the Gudemdoddi Reservoir in Jogulamba Gadwal district, raising its storage capacity from 1.19 TMC to 15 TMC.

The reservoir forms part of the Jawahar Nettampadu Lift Irrigation Scheme. The government also approved developing the project under a Pumped Storage Project (PSP) model integrated with solar power generation.

The Irrigation and CAD (Projects-II) Department issued the approval on September 9. The decision followed a review of the proposal and circumstances reported by the Chief Engineer, Wanaparthy.

The government sanctioned ₹15 crore for surveys, investigations and technical studies required for the proposed expansion. It also approved ₹165 crore for acquiring an additional 1,100 acres of land.

Together, the two allocations amount to ₹180 crore for the preparatory work and land acquisition. The government has also approved the necessary administrative sanctions for the project.

Gudemdoddi Reservoir expansion to include solar-linked PSP model

Under the approved plan, officials will examine the technical and financial feasibility of increasing the reservoir’s capacity to 15 TMC. The studies will cover the requirements for developing the project under the PSP model.

The proposal also links the reservoir development with solar power generation. Officials will carry out the required surveys and investigations before proceeding with further project activities.

The government approved the land acquisition funding to support the proposed expansion. The additional land requirement stands at 1,100 acres.

The expenditure will come from the specified Head of Account under the Irrigation and CAD Department. The department directed the Chief Engineer, Irrigation, Hyderabad, to take further action.

The government order was issued by the Irrigation and CAD (Projects-II) Department on September 9, 2026. The decision sets the process in motion for the proposed capacity expansion and integrated solar-pumped storage project.
