Hyderabad: Minister for SHAKTI and Mines Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy called for wider access to affordable, clean energy and greater adoption of renewable energy technologies to support sustainable development.
He also stressed that solar power systems and other clean energy solutions must meet prescribed quality and safety standards. The Minister addressed the World Standards Day 2026 programme organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at a hotel in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vivek Venkataswamy said this year’s programme focused on United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 7. The goal centred on ensuring access to affordable and clean energy for everyone. He emphasised that affordable clean energy access required coordinated efforts from governments, industries and educational institutions.
Affordable clean energy access requires joint efforts
Vivek Venkataswamy urged stakeholders to work together to improve energy efficiency and encourage environmentally friendly technologies. He said cooperation among government agencies, industrial organisations and educational institutions was essential for promoting sustainable energy practices.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining quality standards while expanding renewable energy use. He stressed that clean energy technologies, particularly solar power installations, needed to comply with safety and quality requirements.
Meanwhile, he said efforts were underway to encourage industries to adopt solar energy as an alternative power source. These initiatives included promoting the installation of solar panels on industrial building rooftops. Vivek Venkataswamy encouraged industries to consider rooftop solar installations as part of their energy requirements.
He also urged households to adopt solar-powered lighting systems wherever possible. In particular, the Minister recommended using solar lights in homes and gardens to encourage renewable energy consumption.
He linked these measures to broader efforts to improve energy efficiency and promote environmentally sustainable technologies. The Minister reiterated the need for cooperation among stakeholders to expand affordable clean energy access while maintaining appropriate safety and quality standards.
