Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla urges public participation in TB fight

Hyderabad: The Shiv Pratap Shukla TB campaign called for greater public participation in the fight against tuberculosis and urged society to fight the disease rather than patients. The Governor stressed the need to remove misconceptions and social stigma linked to TB.

On Gandhi Jayanti, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the 77th TB Seal Sale Campaign at Lok Bhavan on Friday. The Telangana TB Association organised the campaign. During the event, Shukla said the initiative reflected society’s humanity and collective responsibility towards people undergoing TB treatment.

Furthermore, the Governor said the fight against TB had become a people’s movement under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He pointed to the role of Nikshay Mitras, who provide nutritional and other support to TB patients.

The Governor also highlighted Telangana’s treatment results. Nearly 90% of TB patients in the state successfully completed treatment in 2025. Therefore, he called for sustained efforts to reach a 100% treatment success rate.

Shukla said he had reviewed TB eradication efforts during visits to different districts. In addition, he discussed the progress with Collectors and medical officials during those visits.

Shiv Pratap Shukla TB campaign focuses on dignity and nutrition

The Governor said Lok Bhavan would continue to act as a catalyst and coordination centre for public welfare initiatives. He also appreciated the work of the Telangana TB Association in expanding TB detection and screening efforts.

In particular, Shukla praised the association’s use of digital X-rays and active case-finding programmes through mobile vehicles. These services had helped reach remote and tribal areas, according to the Governor.

Meanwhile, the Governor stressed that TB recovery required more than medicines. He said patients also needed nutritional support and social dignity during treatment.

Shukla also appealed to people to contribute to the TB Seal Sale Campaign. He encouraged individuals to become Nikshay Mitras and support at least one TB patient with nutrition for six months. He further urged students and young people to spread awareness about TB symptoms and prevention.

The programme was attended by Telangana TB Association vice-president Dr C N Prasad, general secretary D Balachandra, joint director Dr C Sumalatha and Joint Secretary to the Governor Shashi Kiranachari.
