Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu said the government is giving top priority to the Telugu film industry and is working to make Hyderabad the hub of India’s film sector.
Addressing a meeting of the Gaddar Cinema Awards jury members at the Secretariat, Bhatti said the state offers favourable conditions for film industries from all languages. According to him, Hyderabad offers greater scope for expansion than other cities.
He noted that cities such as Mumbai, Kolkata, and Chennai face growth limitations. In contrast, Hyderabad has several advantages for large-scale expansion.
As a result, Bhatti said the growth of the film industry in Hyderabad will create employment opportunities. In particular, youth, technicians, writers, and directors stand to benefit.
He added that the government is preparing a detailed blueprint to position Hyderabad as a global cinema centre. Consequently, the film sector can emerge as a major employment generator.
Gaddar Cinema Awards to promote talent and social message
Meanwhile, Bhatti said previous governments had neglected cinema awards for decades. However, the present government under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has revived the awards to encourage cinema with a strong social impact.
He described Gaddar as a revolutionary artist who dedicated his life to society through art. According to Bhatti, Telangana symbolises art, questioning spirit, sensitivity, and revolution, all of which Gaddar represents.
Therefore, the government began presenting the Gaddar Cinema Awards last year to honour his legacy. At the same time, Bhatti stressed that transparency and merit remain the core criteria for selection.
He praised last year’s jury for conducting the awards process efficiently. Accordingly, the government selects jury members after consultations through the Film Development Corporation.
Moreover, Bhatti assured the government of full cooperation in organising the awards. He said films selected for the Gaddar Awards must balance commercial appeal with a strong social message.
He announced that film screenings begin on February 6. Subsequently, the government will present the Gaddar Cinema Awards on Ugadi, March 19, in a grand manner.
Bhatti said the government plans to organise the awards on a large scale again this year. Hence, it has given full freedom and support to the Film Development Corporation and the Information and Public Relations Department.
The meeting was attended by Film Development Corporation chairman Dil Raju, I&PR Commissioner Priyanka, FDC Executive Director Kishore Babu, and film personalities Tanikella Bharani, KS Ramarao, Roja Ramani, and Ashok Kumar.
