Telangana offers free assistive devices for persons with disabilities

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has invited online applications from persons with disabilities for free assistive devices and digital equipment through the OBMMS portal.

The Telangana Disabled Cooperative Corporation launched the scheme to support mobility, education and self-employment. Officials fixed February 10, 2026, as the final date for submission.

Applicants who did not receive benefits earlier can submit fresh applications under the scheme.

The programme includes battery-powered wheelchairs, mobile business battery tricycles, laptops, tablets and 5G smartphones.

Persons with muscular dystrophy or spinal cord injury with at least 40 per cent disability can apply for battery wheelchairs. Physically disabled persons with 80 per cent disability also qualify. Eligible applicants must fall between 12 and 55 years of age.

Physically disabled persons with 40 per cent disability can apply for mobile business battery tricycles, also known as Empower Carts. The scheme does not insist on educational qualifications. Applicants must be between 18 and 55 years old.

Eligibility details for free assistive devices

Physically disabled persons with 40 per cent disability can apply for hybrid and attachment wheelchairs. Applicants must possess intermediate or higher education and fall within the 18–55 age group.

Persons with hearing or visual impairment who pursue degree courses can apply for low-end laptops. Visual impairment must exceed 55 per cent, while hearing impairment must exceed 51 per cent. Eligible applicants must be aged between 18 and 55 years.

Persons with physical, hearing or visual disabilities who pursue postgraduate or equivalent courses can apply for high-end laptops. Applicants must show at least 40 per cent disability and fall in the 18–55 age bracket.

Visually or hearing-impaired students studying intermediate courses can apply for tablets. Eligible applicants must fall between 18 and 35 years and meet disability norms.

The scheme also provides free 5G smartphones to visually and hearing-impaired persons who completed Class 10. Applicants must continue their studies or actively seek employment. The eligible age group ranges from 16 to 50 years.
