Farmers in Sirisilla face urea shortage, demand adequate supply

Hyderabad: Farmers in Rajanna Sirisilla district on Saturday staged protests over the continuing shortage of urea, complaining that their crops were at risk due to inadequate supply.

Growers who transplanted paddy nearly 15 days ago said the fertiliser had still not reached them. Many feared that without timely application, their paddy fields would wither.

Farmers face urea shortage, queue for limited stock

In Chandampet, within Sirisilla municipal limits, hundreds of farmers waited outside the district Rythu Vedika for urea distribution. Earlier in the day, farmers had registered their names at the single-window office in Sirisilla before reaching the venue.

Agriculture officials, under police supervision, distributed 440 urea bags to about 600 waiting farmers. Announcements were made over a microphone, and tokens were issued to regulate distribution. Each farmer received only one bag before being asked to leave.

Farmers demand adequate supply

Disappointed farmers said a single bag was far from sufficient for their fields. They accused the government and officials of failing to address the crisis. “How can one bag feed our crops?” angry farmers asked. They demanded immediate steps to ensure adequate supply across the district.

The shortage has sparked growing resentment, with farmers accusing authorities of neglecting their urgent needs during the peak cultivation stage.
