Hyderabad: Farmers protested against power cuts at the Isayipeta substation in Palvancha mandal on Friday. They said their crops were drying up for lack of irrigation water.
The farmers staged a dharna outside the substation. They demanded the immediate restoration of electricity supply.
After receiving information about the protest, NPDCL officials reached the substation. The Velpagonda AE and DE spoke with the farmers about the power shortage.
The officials said inadequate power generation had affected electricity supply from higher levels. As a result, the area was not receiving sufficient power.
However, the farmers showed officials videos of their fields. The footage showed cracks in the soil caused by the lack of water.
Power cuts leave farmers questioning supply to stone-crushing units
Meanwhile, the farmers questioned the officials over electricity supply to stone-crushing units. They asked how the units received power when higher-level supply remained inadequate.
The farmers urged the officials to restore electricity quickly. They said continued power cuts would affect irrigation and damage their crops.
Following the discussions, the officials promised to ensure adequate power supply within two to three days. They assured the farmers that steps would be taken to address the shortage.
The farmers then withdrew their dharna after receiving the assurance. However, they continued to raise concerns over the impact of power cuts on their fields.
The officials said they would work to provide sufficient electricity within two to three days.
