Hyderabad: Roads & Buildings and Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Thursday stressed the need to balance academics with sports for students’ overall development. He emphasized that focusing on education and sports together should not come at the expense of physical activity.
He spoke at the inauguration of a two-day inter-school sports meet at Vipasya School in Charlapally, Nalgonda district.
Sports play a vital role in student growth
Addressing students, teachers, and school administrators, Komatireddy said sports help build discipline, resilience, and confidence. “They equip students to face life’s challenges,” he noted. Therefore, he urged schools to give sports equal importance alongside education and sports activities.
He also appealed to private schools to support students from low-income families. He added that true sportsmanship lies in embracing both victory and defeat with grace in education and sports settings.
Government boosting education and infrastructure
Highlighting the State’s educational reforms, the Minister said the government is building Young India Integrated Residential Schools at ₹200 crore each. These schools will cater to underprivileged students. Construction of the Nalgonda campus near SLBC is already underway. The facilities will include modern classrooms, hostels, dining halls, and full-fledged sports grounds. Komatireddy said focusing on education and sports, these schools aim to make students employment-ready. They will be launched across the State next year.
Turning to urban development, he announced that Nalgonda, soon to become a Municipal Corporation, will be developed as a Smart City. The R&B department is building an Outer Ring Road for ₹200 crore. Additionally, underground drainage works worth ₹700 crore are in progress.
Komatireddy also revealed that Bottuguda Primary School in Nalgonda has been upgraded to corporate standards. The ₹12 crore project was supported by the Prateek Foundation and will be inaugurated shortly.
