Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) conducted a drinking water review and ordered officials to prepare a 60-day plan to sustain supply across the city.
Managing Director Ashok Reddy directed teams to monitor water allocation in all areas on a continuous basis. He said shortages must be corrected immediately through adjustments in supply. He instructed officials to follow fixed supply timings and inform residents in advance if disruptions occur.
He reviewed supply systems across the city, including demand and supply levels, water storage in reservoirs, pumping capacity and distribution networks. Senior officials from transmission, operations and maintenance divisions attended the meeting.
Ashok Reddy told transmission officials to identify areas receiving excess water and divert the supply to regions facing shortages. He ordered immediate steps to ensure equal distribution. He also asked teams to review valve operations and revise supply schedules wherever necessary.
Drinking water review enforces balanced distribution and strict monitoring
The MD directed officials to form special teams to control leakages, illegal connections and water wastage. He ordered continuous monitoring of pumping stations, reservoirs and main pipelines to prevent any interruption in supply.
He asked officials to assess rising summer demand and prepare plans for tanker-based supply. The city currently operates 1,250 tankers, along with 90 filling stations and 145 filling points. He instructed officials to propose additional filling stations if required.
General managers were asked to coordinate with transmission teams and closely monitor inflows to maintain a steady supply. He also ordered that tanker services be extended into night hours to meet demand. Domestic supply will be prioritised during the day, while commercial needs will be handled at night.
Ashok Reddy warned that strict action will be taken against the misuse of drinking water for non-essential purposes such as washing vehicles and premises. He also ordered special drives in areas where water is drawn using motors during supply hours.
Executive Director Samrat Ashok, Operations Director Narayana, CGMs and officials from the revenue and IT departments were present at the review.
