Tensions flare in Dharmaram as Congress, BRS face-off over development claims

Hyderabad: Political tensions escalated in Peddapalli district’s Dharmaram town on Tuesday as Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders squared off in public over claims of development work, leading to a police-controlled standoff at the main junction.

The clash followed days of heated exchanges and challenges issued by both camps, each claiming credit for local progress. With the town’s weekly market scheduled for the day, Congress leaders proposed holding a public debate at Nandi Medaram to avoid disruptions. They reached the spot early Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, BRS leaders launched a rally from the Dharmaram bus stand, heading straight toward the main junction. Police moved in fast. Split the groups. Held them off from a face-to-face clash.

Later, the Congress side made their way to the Ambedkar statue. Poured milk. Left quietly. Crowd thinned. Tension settled.
