Congress opens IS Sadan Division office to boost Old City presence ahead of GHMC polls

Hyderabad: The Congress party opened the IS Sadan Division office in Hyderabad on Friday to strengthen its organisational base in the Old City ahead of the GHMC elections.

Hyderabad District Congress Committee president Syed Khalid Saifullah inaugurated the office. He said the move marked an important step in rebuilding the party’s grassroots network in long-neglected localities.

Yakutpura Assembly constituency in-charge K Ravi Raj attended the programme. Senior leaders Bheem Arjun Reddy, Kotla Srinivas, and Krishna Kumar were also present.

Addressing party workers, Khalid Saifullah said the IS Sadan Division office marked the first phase of a wider organisational revival in the Old City. He said the Congress planned to open similar offices in all 44 wards under the Hyderabad DCC.

IS Sadan Division office and organisational expansion

He said the initiative formed part of a structured organisational revamp at the grassroots level. According to him, the Congress aimed to reconnect with Old City residents and identify local civic issues. He said the party would also ensure stronger representation in governance.

The move came as the Hyderabad DCC stepped up preparations for the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. Khalid Saifullah said the party received a strong response to its online application process for party posts, which closed on January 4.

He said the large number of applications reflected growing enthusiasm for the Congress under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy.

Khalid Saifullah said the party would soon hold a detailed strategy meeting to finalise ward-level preparations. He said welfare schemes introduced by the Congress government had already begun showing results in the Old City.

Welfare focus linked to IS Sadan Division office push

He said more than 70% of the Old City population was benefiting from schemes such as free bus travel for women, new ration cards, and free fine rice distribution.

He said the government’s decision to fast-track the long-pending Old City Metro Rail project also restored public confidence. According to him, residents were now witnessing visible development after decades of neglect.

Stressing both development and electoral goals, Khalid Saifullah said the Congress aimed to rebuild trust and re-establish itself as a credible political force in the Old City.

He said the opening of the IS Sadan Division office reflected the party’s long-term commitment to Hyderabad and its people.
