Congress MLC files complaint against actor Srikanth Iyengar over Gandhi remarks

Hyderabad: Congress MLC Balmoor Venkat on Saturday lodged a complaint with CCS Hyderabad police against actor Srikanth Iyengar. He accused the actor of posting derogatory comments about Mahatma Gandhi on social media.

Venkat called the remarks objectionable and urged police to initiate legal action. “The authorities must register a case and ensure strict punishment. This will discourage such offensive statements in the future,” he said.

Additionally, he demanded that the Movie Artists Association (MAA) expel Iyengar. “We will also submit complaints to the Cinematography Minister and the Film Development Corporation,” he added.

Influencers, film industry under fire for silence

Venkat criticised the silence of social media influencers and film personalities who had spoken up in other controversies but avoided this one. “Those who rushed to comment during the Allu Arjun incident have remained quiet on this serious issue,” he noted.

He said protests and effigy burnings were already underway across Telangana. “Public figures must act responsibly. Ignoring such actions will only embolden others,” he warned.

Gandhi’s legacy must be protected

The MLC underlined the importance of remembering India’s freedom struggle. “We must honour every person who fought for independence,” he said. “It’s distressing to see attempts to glorify those who did nothing, while belittling the Father of the Nation.”
