Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao alleged that the Congress government had failed in paddy procurement and pushed farmers into hardship across Telangana.
Addressing the media on Saturday after attending a party organisational training programme at a private engineering college in LMD Colony of Karimnagar district’s Thimmapur mandal, he claimed the procurement process had become completely disorganised.
Ramchander Rao said farmers were facing severe difficulties at procurement centres due to the lack of basic facilities. He alleged that official pressure was forcing farmers to transport their produce to rice mills and sell it at lower prices.
He accused the state government of concealing facts and unfairly blaming the Centre over procurement issues.
Paddy procurement issue sparks BJP criticism
The BJP leader said the Centre had fixed the minimum support price and was bearing the procurement expenditure. Despite this, he alleged that the state government was trying to shift responsibility to the Union government.
Ramchander Rao said contradictory statements from ministers and officials on paddy procurement reflected the government’s negligence.
Meanwhile, he demanded immediate relief for paddy and mango farmers affected by unseasonal rains.
He urged district collectors to assess crop losses without delay and ensure compensation reaches affected farmers.
Furthermore, he warned that the government would face consequences if it continued to ignore farmers’ interests.
BJP district president Gangadi Krishna Reddy, Mayor Kolakani Srinivas, Deputy Mayor Yadagiri Sunil Rao, former MLAs Suddala Devaiah and Bodige Shobha, along with district and mandal leaders, attended the programme.
