Hyderabad: Ranga Reddy District Collector C Narayana Reddy has directed officials to carry out a large-scale plantation drive under the Vanamahotsavam programme in view of the ongoing rains. He emphasised the need to geo-tag all saplings and ensure high survival rates, assigning targets to departments to be achieved within a week.
During a video conference with revenue officials, MPDOs, municipal commissioners, and line department officers, the Collector reviewed arrangements for Vanamahotsavam, Indiramma housing construction, welfare hostel facilities, and ration card issuance.
He instructed that public representatives and local citizens must be actively involved in the plantation activities. Regarding the Indiramma housing scheme, he asked officials to adhere strictly to government norms, process payments for houses that have reached basement level by Monday, and re-verify rejected applications.
The Collector directed early completion of ration card application verifications and issuance, as the distribution window from July 25 to August 10 nears.
In view of monsoon risks, he ordered the formation of Disaster Response Force committees in all municipalities. These will include the tahsildar, sanitation inspectors, local police and traffic officers, and representatives from the water board, electricity, irrigation, R&B, and HYDRAA. He instructed them to pre-identify vulnerable tanks, manholes, drains, and low-lying zones and initiate preventive action.
Officials were told to stay on alert until the end of the monsoon. Special attention is to be given to sanitation, food, and drinking water in welfare hostels and government schools. The Collector assured funds will be released if any immediate needs arise.
He directed spraying and fogging in mosquito-prone areas and ordered PHC medical staff to stay available. Awareness on seasonal diseases must be increased, and stock of medicines ensured.
