Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar issued a sharp warning on Sunday against the use of Chinese manja, calling it a serious threat to public safety. In a tweet that also featured a police awareness video, he urged citizens to reject the deadly thread without hesitation.
“Miyaa, ye patang ka maamla nahin hai—ye zindagi aur maut ka scene hai,” Sajjanar tweeted. He added that while a kite can always fly again, a life lost cannot return, making it vital to say a firm “no” to Chinese manja.

In the video shared along with the tweet, a police officer is seen explaining the hazards of Chinese manja to a young boy. The officer highlights the injuries and fatalities caused by the razor-sharp synthetic thread, especially during festivals like Sankranti.

Police have repeatedly warned that the banned nylon-coated thread is non-biodegradable and capable of inflicting deep cuts on people, birds, and animals. Despite a ban on its sale and use, incidents continue to surface across Telangana.
Sajjanar’s message reinforces the police department’s ongoing campaign for safe and responsible kite flying. Authorities have urged citizens to report sellers and users of Chinese manja and to opt for safe, biodegradable alternatives.
