Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) used a street play at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday. With this play, it sharply criticised what it called “ongoing constitutional violations” under Congress rule in Telangana.
Performed by Hyderabad Central University students, the play focused on alleged governance lapses, corruption, and democratic erosion under Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership. Furthermore, through satire and symbolism, it accused the Congress of hypocrisy in its public claims of upholding constitutional values.
The play began with direct criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, portraying his national tour with the Constitution as political posturing. Simultaneously, it alleged that the Telangana government was violating those very principles. Most notably, it pointed to the government’s treatment of opposition voices and marginalised communities.
Key scenes dramatised alleged inducements to legislators, attacks on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students, and opportunistic political deals. In addition, it addressed controversies such as the HYDRA initiative and the Lagacharla tribal land acquisition episode. It accused the government of misusing public funds and neglecting core welfare priorities.
A central element of the performance was a character representing “Mother Constitution,” depicted in chains. This image was used to symbolise the shrinking space for democratic governance and institutional integrity in the state.
The play ended with a message that citizens must reclaim their democratic rights and protect constitutional values from political exploitation.
BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and several senior leaders were present at the event. They gave a standing ovation and praised the performers for their portrayal of what the party called “contemporary political realities.”
