Hyderabad: BJP state president N. Ramchander Rao on Saturday claimed that people across Telangana are increasingly supporting the BJP, pointing to the party’s strong showing in the first phase of Panchayat Raj elections.
Speaking at the party’s state office, Rao said the BJP secured over 300 Sarpanch posts and expressed confidence in continued success in the upcoming phases. He noted that the party contested the elections on a large scale with enthusiastic participation from workers and supporters.
BJP expanding in rural Telangana, says Rao
Rao highlighted key wins in the districts of Karimnagar, Adilabad, and Medak, and reported gains in other regions as well. He thanked BJP workers for their grassroots efforts and thanked voters for placing their trust in the party.
He said the BJP had no Sarpanch presence in Jangaon in the past but has now secured victories in Jangaon (2), Mahabubabad (6), Bhupalpally (3), Sangareddy (6), Wanaparthy (6), and Nagarkurnool (3). Several ward members and Deputy Sarpanches also won with BJP backing, indicating wider rural reach.
In a veiled jibe, Rao likened Congress and BRS claims of independent wins to the late CM Anjaiah’s remarks about symbol-less elections. He said both parties were exaggerating their results without clear proof.
Accuses state of misusing Central funds
Rao further alleged that only Central schemes were truly benefiting rural Telangana. He accused the state government of diverting funds meant for key programmes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana. He credited the Centre for ensuring the free supply of five kilograms of rice per beneficiary.
Calling BRS and Congress “partner thieves,” he said both parties misused Central funds during their time in power. Rao accused them of now uniting to block the BJP’s rise in Telangana.
He concluded by appealing to voters to back the BJP in the remaining election phases, assuring that the party would ensure proper implementation of Central schemes in every village.
