Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy has written to the Centre once again. Uttam urges Centre not to grant permissions for the proposed Nallamala Sagar project in Andhra Pradesh and the land acquisition related to Karnataka’s Almatti dam expansion.
In a letter addressed to Union Jal Shakti Secretary Pankaj Kumar, the minister stated that both proposals violate the Bachawat Tribunal award. He reminded the Centre that it had earlier rejected Andhra’s Polavaram–Banakacharla project on environmental grounds. Yet, tenders for the Nallamala Sagar DPR are now being invited at the same location. This is prompting Telangana’s strong objection.
Demands PMKSY-AIBP funds, DPR approvals
Reddy also requested that key Telangana irrigation projects planned between 2026 and 2031—such as Pranahita–Chevella, Narayanpet–Kodangal, Sitarama, Palamuru–Rangareddy, Mukteshwar, Modikunta Vagu, and Chanaka–Korata—receive financial support under PMKSY–AIBP.
He asked the Centre to expedite Krishna Tribunal–2 proceedings and grant pending permissions. Specifically, he urged immediate approval of DPRs already submitted for Phase I of Palamuru–Rangareddy and the Sammakka–Sarakka project.
