Hyderabad: The BJP on Wednesday alleged political harassment behind the tribal candidate suicide Telangana incident, as Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy visited the family of Erukala Mahadevappa in Maktal municipality.
Mahadevappa, a BJP councillor candidate from Ward No. 6 in Maktal, reportedly died by suicide. Party leaders claimed that ruling Congress members had pressured and intimidated him during the municipal election process.
Tribal candidate suicide Telangana: Issue raised in Parliament, says Kishan Reddy
After meeting the bereaved family, Kishan Reddy described the incident as “deeply disturbing and painful.” He conveyed condolences and assured the family of continued support. Furthermore, he said the BJP had raised the issue in Parliament. According to him, BJP MP Dr. K. Laxman mentioned the matter in the Rajya Sabha, while he raised it in the Lok Sabha.
The Union Minister then launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana. He accused party leaders of engaging in “intimidation politics” across the state. Moreover, he alleged that BJP candidates and workers faced threats and attacks in areas ranging from Maktal to Godavarikhani and from Zaheerabad to Khammam.
Kishan Reddy claimed that such incidents occurred allegedly under the direction of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He questioned the law-and-order situation and termed the development unprecedented in Telangana politics. Finally, he asserted that the BJP would stand firmly with Mahadevappa’s family.
