Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Sunday defended the government’s massive housing push under the Indiramma scheme, claiming it had set a national record by spending ₹22,000 crore in a single year. Speaking at a land patta distribution event in Madhira, Bhatti accused the opposition of spreading conspiracies because welfare measures were “erasing poverty itself.”
He said the Congress-led government had launched multiple programs covering every stage of life, from newborns to the elderly, reaching nearly 93 lakh families out of 1.10 crore in the state.
Attacking the previous TRS government, Bhatti alleged it had neither cleared pending house bills nor built new homes for the poor, forcing the present government to invest heavily in Indiramma housing. He accused past rulers of pushing Telangana into debt through reckless loans and leaving behind a collapsed financial system.

He added that CM Revanth Reddy’s cabinet was working 18 hours a day to stabilise state finances and spend every rupee on the welfare of the poor.
Bhatti noted that Congress had started construction of 4.5 lakh homes at ₹5 lakh per unit, totalling ₹22,500 crore in the first year, claiming no other state matched this scale.
He described the Indiramma housing push as part of a larger vision to deliver dignity, social security, and hope to homeless families who had waited a decade for shelter. He cited padayatras and the People’s March as inspiration for prioritising housing.
The Deputy CM stated the government would spend “whatever it takes” to ensure no poor person remained without a roof in “Indiramma Rajyam.”
Apart from housing, Bhatti highlighted subsidised rice to 93 lakh families, gas cylinders at ₹500, 200 free electricity units, enhanced pensions for the elderly, disabled, and widows, and job guarantees for those fit to work.
He said the government had increased diet allowances by 40% and cosmetic allowances by 200% in residential schools, with fee reimbursement schemes and the Rajiv Yuva Vikasam initiative for self-employment budgeted at ₹8,000 crore.
Health support through Rajiv Arogyasri had been expanded to ₹10 lakh in coverage, Bhatti added, while farmers were assured of not just MSP but also a ₹500 bonus per quintal on fine rice.

He reported that in three months, nearly 2 lakh farmers benefited from farm loan waivers worth ₹21,000 crore, with an additional ₹12,000 annual investment support through Rythu Bharosa, amounting to ₹17,500 crore spent so far.
On women’s welfare, he claimed the Indira Kranthi Pathakam was providing ₹20,000 crore interest-free loans annually to DWCRA self-help groups, with ₹21,000 crore disbursed in the first year. The aim, he said, was to help make one crore women “crorepatis” within five years.
