Hyderabad: Former Governor Bandaru Dattatreya paid floral tributes to Chakali Ailamma’s statue at Lower Tank Bund on September 26, 2026. The programme was held to mark her birth anniversary.
Bandaru Dattatreya said Chakali Ailamma’s courage against landlords and her fight for land inspired society. He described her rebellion as an example of Telangana’s grit and said her life continued to inspire people.
Speaking at the programme, Dattatreya recalled Ailamma’s opposition to autocratic rule and forced labour, known as vetti chakiri. He said she upheld the self-respect of Telangana people and fought for her rights without backing down.
He also highlighted her role in challenging social injustices. According to Dattatreya, Ailamma demonstrated that women could question injustice and fight for their rights.
The former Governor said her contribution to the history of the armed struggle remained unforgettable. He called on people to follow her ideals and work for equality, social justice and self-respect.
Bandaru Dattatreya Chakali Ailamma tribute includes Rajaka demands
On the occasion, Dattatreya urged the government to address the legitimate rights of the Rajaka community. His demands included adding the Rajaka community to the Scheduled Castes list and installing a Chakali Ailamma statue on Tank Bund.
He also sought the immediate construction of a building on land allotted to the Rajakas in Medipally. In addition, he demanded hostel facilities for Rajaka students.
Dattatreya further called for a specialised medical scheme for the community. He cited health concerns among Rajakas who regularly wash soiled clothes in water and said many are prone to serious illnesses such as cancer.
High Court Judge Justice Surepalli Nanda attended the programme. BJP City General Secretary Mallampeta Ramesh Ram, Telangana Rajaka Development Corporation Chairman Narsimha and General Secretary Jupalli Rajasekhar were also present.
