Hyderabad: The Telangana government will begin rehabilitation of the three Kaleshwaram barrages by mid-November 2026 and complete the works before the 2027 monsoon. Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced the schedule on Saturday. The Kaleshwaram barrage rehabilitation will cover Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla.
The Minister reviewed the rehabilitation proposals with senior Irrigation officials at his official camp office in Hyderabad. He said the government had finalised designs to restore the structural safety and operational reliability of all three barrages.
The project designer prepared the restoration plan with several structural interventions. These included foundation strengthening through grouting, extension of stilling basins and construction of new cutoff walls.
According to Uttam Kumar Reddy, the measures addressed earlier deficiencies in energy dissipation, foundation stability and under-seepage control. He said the strategy also incorporated safety concerns raised by the National Dam Safety Authority and other expert bodies.

“There will be no compromise on structural safety or the quality of rehabilitation. Works will be executed strictly on the basis of scientific studies and recommendations from national technical institutions,” Uttam Kumar Reddy said.
The Central Water and Power Research Station in Pune was conducting Computational Fluid Dynamics modelling of the proposed designs. The modelling would assess hydraulic behaviour under different flow conditions. It would also verify the efficiency of the proposed energy-dissipation arrangements.
Officials would submit the designs to the Central Water Commission’s Technical Oversight Committee in New Delhi on October 5. The committee would then undertake an expert evaluation and provide its final recommendations, the Minister said.
Meanwhile, Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to complete all preparatory work simultaneously. This would allow the government to float and award tenders immediately after receiving technical clearance.
The Irrigation and Command Area Development Department was also preparing detailed cost estimates and contractual frameworks. The government would place them before the Cabinet for approval, he added.
