Hyderabad: AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has challenged the nationwide voter list revision process, known as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), in the Supreme Court. His petition questions the Election Commission’s procedures for updating electoral rolls.
Owaisi alleged that the Election Commission was removing large numbers of voters without following proper rules. He also objected to the mapping requirements linked to Form 6 submissions, arguing that the procedures created difficulties for applicants.
Voter list revision faces challenge over mapping rules
The AIMIM chief urged the Supreme Court to halt the SIR exercise. Through this petition, Owaisi joined opposition efforts to challenge the process through legal action.
He questioned both the manner in which the Election Commission was conducting the exercise and the rules governing voter mapping. The petition specifically raised concerns about alleged large-scale deletions and the requirements for submitting Form 6.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Owaisi’s petition on Thursday. The hearing will address his challenge to the electoral roll revision process.
