Hyderabad: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi visited Purana Pul early Thursday to review the situation after tension surfaced in the locality late Wednesday night. The incident is being referred to as the latest Purana Pul communal episode in the area.
Soon after arriving, Asaduddin Owaisi inspected the area and assessed the ground situation. Later in the morning, while addressing the media at the AIMIM headquarters, Darussalam, he expressed concern over repeated attempts to disturb communal peace in Hyderabad.
According to Asaduddin Owaisi, a clear pattern had emerged behind such incidents. He said they largely occurred at night and arose over issues that had no relevance. He linked these attempts to forces associated with the Sangh Parivar. Moreover, he said rumours and conflicting claims often followed such incidents.
Asaduddin Owaisi questions police response and warns of pattern
Following the Purana Pul incident, several claims circulated in the area. Some mentioned a poster being thrown. Others spoke about minor acts. However, Asaduddin Owaisi said these narratives were used deliberately to create communal controversy.
Raising concerns over policing, Asaduddin Owaisi questioned the role of the local police at the spot. He pointed out that Hyderabad had extensive CCTV coverage and facial recognition technology. Therefore, he said authorities should prevent such incidents, especially at sensitive locations like Purana Pul.
Referring to the area’s past, Asaduddin Owaisi said Purana Pul had witnessed communal violence during the 1980s and 1990s. He added that he and his party had worked consistently to prevent the return of communal divisions.
At the same time, he said the local community had actively cooperated to maintain harmony. Despite this, he alleged that certain political forces did not want peace to prevail in Hyderabad.
Asaduddin Owaisi urged the police to closely monitor sensitive areas and take firm preventive action. Finally, he appealed to residents of Purana Pul and the wider city to reject any attempt to create unrest. He said Hyderabad needed peace and stability to ensure continued progress.
