Hyderabad: Union Home Minister Amit Shah felicitated Telangana Police officers for their role in anti-Naxal operations and efforts to make Telangana a Naxal-free state. He honoured the officers during a special programme held in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, on Monday.

Senior Telangana Police officers received recognition for their contribution to suppressing Maoist activities in insurgency-affected regions. The Union Home Minister honoured Telangana Director General of Police C. V. Anand, State Security Advisor B. Shivadhar Reddy, DGP Operations Dr Anil Kumar and Malkajgiri Commissioner Sumati along with the SIB team led by her.

Amit Shah congratulated the officers for their service in anti-Naxal operations and efforts against Left-Wing Extremism. Meanwhile, he reiterated the Union Government’s commitment to eliminating Naxalism from the country.

Anti-Naxal operations target achieved in Bastar

Addressing the gathering, Amit Shah said the government fixed March 31, 2026, as the deadline to eradicate Naxalism during an internal review meeting held in January 2024. However, he said many people initially doubted whether the target could be achieved.

According to the Home Minister, the government moved ahead with a clear strategy and coordinated planning. He also announced that authorities had declared the Bastar region Naxal-free.

Amit Shah described Chhattisgarh becoming free from Naxalism as a historic milestone in the country’s long battle against Left-Wing Extremism. He further said the nation faced challenges linked to Naxal violence for nearly three generations since the 1970s.

The Home Minister stated that Naxal-affected areas witnessed bloodshed, stalled development and uncertainty over the future of youth. In addition, he said personnel from several states made sacrifices during anti-Naxal operations across the country.

He added that security forces and governments achieved the goal through coordinated efforts and determination. Several senior officials from Central and State governments and representatives of security agencies attended the programme.
