Alwal police arrest chain snatcher targeting senior women in Macha Bollaram

Hyderabad: Alwal police on Friday cracked a sensational chain-snatching case reported in Siddi Vinayaka Nagar, Macha Bollaram, by arresting the accused Tulla Niranjan Reddy, a 27-year-old Zepto delivery boy from Kompally.

The arrest took place on October 10 at Ice Factory Road, Macha Bollaram, following a combined effort by local police, CCS Medchal, and the SOT. Police produced the accused before the Xth Additional Judicial First Class Magistrate at Medchal.

According to police, Niranjan Reddy targeted older women, approaching them from behind to snatch gold ornaments before fleeing. He had developed an addiction to online betting, which led him to commit the crime.

On October 7, a older citizen filed a complaint stating that around 8 PM, an unknown person snatched her 2-tola gold chain while she was returning from a flour mill. CCTV footage helped identify the suspect.

During interrogation, Reddy confessed to the crime. Police recovered the stolen gold chain (approx. 16 grams), a smartphone, and a Hero Splendor Plus bike used in the offence.

DCP Medchal N. Koti Reddy, IPS, supervised the investigation. ACP A. Balagangi Reddy, SHO A. Prashanth, and officers from CCS and Alwal PS, including G. Thimmappa, Dali Naidu, K. Chandra Shekar, M. Jeevan Kumar, G. Ramakanth, and D. Anjaneyulu, were part of the operation. The DCP praised the team’s efforts and announced rewards for the officers.
