Hyderabad: AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi urged the Telangana Assembly to apply Assembly rules uniformly to ruling and Opposition members. He objected to what he described as different standards for the two sides.
Owaisi said every member should face the same rules inside the House. He asked the Speaker and Assembly authorities to ensure equal treatment during proceedings.
He recalled an earlier instance involving a member of his party. The member had worn a T-shirt to the Assembly, but officials objected to the writing displayed on it.
As a result, the member was not allowed into the House, Owaisi said. At that time, he noted, the rules had received strict enforcement.
However, Owaisi said some members were now displaying pictures inside the Assembly without facing similar objections. Therefore, he argued that a rule applied to one member should also apply to others.
Assembly rules should cover displays by every party
Owaisi said authorities should stop any display that violates Assembly rules, regardless of the member’s party. He maintained that the same standard should govern every member during House proceedings.
Furthermore, he said ruling-party and Opposition members should not face separate standards. Treasury bench members and Opposition legislators, he added, must follow identical rules.
The AIMIM MLA also said his party could bring pictures into the House if the rules allowed such displays. If the rules prohibited them, he questioned why some members could display them without objection.
At the same time, Owaisi stressed that his position was based on equal treatment for all legislators. He sought impartial enforcement of the House rules without political bias.
Accordingly, he asked the Assembly authorities to ensure that its rules applied consistently to every member. He reiterated that both sides should receive equal treatment during proceedings.
