Hyderabad: Authorities in Kurnool district have handed over 18 of the 19 bodies recovered from last Friday’s deadly bus fire to the victims’ families. The accident involved a Hyderabad-to-Bengaluru Kaveri Travels Volvo bus that caught fire near Chinnatekuru, claiming 19 lives and injuring 27 others.
According to Kurnool SP V. Patil, identification was completed based on forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports, three days after the incident. Death certificates were issued to the families, and ambulances were arranged to transport the bodies to their respective hometowns.
The bus was carrying 43 passengers at the time of the accident. Most injuries were minor, and the survivors have since been discharged.
One Kurnool bus fire victim still unidentified; DNA test awaited
One body remains unidentified. A man from Chittoor approached Kurnool Hospital claiming the unclaimed body could be his missing father. Authorities said a DNA test will confirm the identity.
Meanwhile, the FSL report confirmed that the two-wheeler rider Shiva Shankar, who was involved in the accident, was under the influence of alcohol. His role in triggering the crash is being further examined.
