Hyderabad: A young Nepali man was brutally murdered in Khajipally village over an old grudge, sending shockwaves through the local community. IDA Bollaram police swiftly solved the case within two days and arrested the accused on Friday.
Inspector Ravinder Reddy of IDA Bollaram Police said officers found the body of 26-year-old Deepan Thapa on February 4 murdered over old grudge. The victim lay near a deserted stretch in the GMR Colony area with severe head injuries.
Drunken fallout ends in premeditated murder
Soon after locals reported the incident, police launched an investigation. A team led by Ameenpur DI Satyanarayana and Patancheru DI Raju used technical inputs to trace and arrest the suspect, 26-year-old Varakanti Dilip from Gollagudem.
During questioning, Dilip confessed to the crime. He and Deepan were once friends. However, a previous argument during a drinking session had caused lingering resentment.
On February 3, Dilip invited Deepan out for drinks. He took him to a secluded location on his scooter. There, after they consumed alcohol together, Dilip struck Deepan on the head with a stone, killing him instantly. He had planned the attack in advance.
Afterward, he disposed of Deepan’s phone along the road to avoid detection and fled the scene.
Judicial remand follows swift arrest
Ravinder Reddy stated that police arrested Dilip on Friday afternoon. After his confession, they presented him before a magistrate, who ordered judicial custody.
