Hyderabad: Warangal city submerged on Thursday after nonstop rains from Montha cyclone swept through the region, flooding homes and blocking roads across the tri-city zone.
Although the rain stopped, Warangal, Hanumakonda, and Kazipet stayed under floodwater. In many colonies, water filled houses, forcing residents to wade through waist-high levels. Roads in Hanumakonda looked like rivers. Warangal Railway Station remained fully waterlogged.
Floods hit over 40 colonies in the city. Heavy waterlogging was reported in Saraswathi Colony near Bhadrakali Road and on the Warangal underbridge. Water entered homes in Saiganesh Colony, Santoshi Mata Colony, DK Nagar, NN Nagar, Maisayya Nagar, and Sammayya Nagar.
Warangal District Collector Satyasaradha said the district recorded 29 cm of rain. She said officials had tracked the situation closely and started safety steps two days before the storm. All schools and markets were closed. Rescue teams moved pregnant people and patients to safer places.
“People in low-lying areas have been shifted to rehabilitation centers,” she said. Relief staff are now providing food in the worst-hit zones.
