Hyderabad: Labour and Mines Minister Gaddam Vivek Venkataswamy led a Congress protest against voter deletions in Mandamarri. Congress leaders and workers held a rally near the old bus stand and staged a dharna under the national highway flyover.
The protesters raised slogans against the Central Election Commission during the demonstration. Meanwhile, Vivek Venkataswamy said the Congress would continue its fight to protect people’s voting rights.
The minister described voting rights as a crucial part of democracy. He also said the party would not tolerate actions that harmed citizens’ voting rights.
Furthermore, Vivek Venkataswamy said the Congress would intensify its campaign to protect democracy. He made the remarks while addressing party leaders and workers at the protest.
Voter deletion protest targets Election Commission
Vivek Venkataswamy also criticised the arrests of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi after they spoke about alleged “vote theft”. He called the arrests a cowardly act and questioned how many people authorities would arrest if they continued detaining those who raised questions.
Meanwhile, the minister said the Election Commission had a responsibility to protect citizens’ voting rights. He demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In addition, Vivek Venkataswamy reiterated that the Congress would intensify its fight to protect democracy. He said the party would continue opposing actions that, according to him, threatened people’s voting rights.
The voter deletion protest drew participation from MPTCs, ZPTCs, mandal presidents and town presidents from the constituency. Senior leaders and party workers also joined the demonstration.
Women’s Congress leaders and youth organisation representatives participated as well. The protest concluded with Congress workers continuing their demands against voter deletions and calling for protection of voting rights.
