Uttam orders probe into Peddapalli check dam breaches

Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Monday ordered a high-level vigilance inquiry into the breaches of check dams in Gumpula and Adavi Somanapalli villages in Peddapalli district.

He expressed strong dissatisfaction over the collapse and demanded a detailed explanation. Reddy instructed officials to investigate whether the breaches resulted from poor construction or deliberate damage. He raised the possibility of sabotage, including illegal sand mining.

Reddy warned that the government would take strict action against any official or contractor found responsible for the failures.

“Our government has taken this matter very seriously. We have already instructed the Vigilance department to expedite the investigation and identify those responsible. We will not tolerate anyone who deliberately attempts to destroy check dams that benefit farmers across the state,” he said.

He stressed that the government would ensure accountability if officials used substandard materials or if anyone intentionally damaged the infrastructure.
