Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Friday called for the formation of an AI-based task force within the Vigilance Department to improve transparency and productivity in public sector operations.
Speaking at Singareni Bhavan during the fifth day of Vigilance Awareness Week, Sajjanar said corruption stems from systemic flaws and outdated procedures. “Fundamental changes in the system are necessary. Good policies and procedures can prevent malpractices,” he said. He stressed that technology, particularly AI, could play a vital role in improving administrative transparency.
Recalling his 25-year association with Singareni Collieries Company Limited, Sajjanar praised the enterprise’s evolution under the leadership of CMD N. Balram. He said Singareni’s expansion into new business areas reflects its growing global profile. He also encouraged employees to embrace change and upgrade their skills, warning that companies resisting reform risk closure.
The Commissioner advised Singareni to adopt best practices from vigilance departments across India. He emphasized that vigilance should operate as a reform-oriented system, not merely a punitive one.
G. Srinivasa Rao, Principal Commissioner of GST, echoed this view during a separate session later that day. He said vigilance should guide employees through well-defined Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), rather than instilling fear. Rao emphasized that honest officers must be protected, and performing employees should be appreciated. He added that unintentional errors should be corrected through support, not punishment.
Presiding over the program, CMD N. Balram highlighted Singareni’s strategic plans for expansion into ten Indian states and possible overseas mining ventures. He also said this year’s Vigilance Week featured notable speakers to inspire internal reforms and better system integration.
