Hyderabad: A Unity March commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was held in Secunderabad on Sunday. The rally began at the Shivaji Statue in Sitafalmandi and concluded at the Gandhi Statue in Chilakalguda. Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy participated in the event and delivered a keynote address.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister urged every citizen of Telangana to remember Sardar Patel’s historic contribution. Specifically, in integrating Hyderabad State into the Indian Union. He recalled that Operation Polo, led by Patel, liberated Telangana from the autocratic Nizam regime. Furthermore, it ended atrocities committed by the Razakars.
“No leader has served the Hyderabad State and its people like Sardar Patel. He ensured the unification of our nation and gave us true freedom,” Reddy said. He emphasised Patel’s unmatched role in nation-building after Independence. Additionally, he credited him for merging hundreds of princely states into the Republic of India.

Reddy asserted that Patel’s courage and vision made a united India possible, despite vast cultural, linguistic, and religious differences. He called on the youth to understand and spread Patel’s legacy across Telangana—especially in schools, offices, and villages.
“These celebrations are not mere ceremonies; they are a chance to remind future generations about Patel’s leadership, sacrifice, and determination,” Reddy stated. He added that it was no exaggeration to say that Telangana owes its democratic freedom to Patel’s decisive action through Operation Polo.
