Telangana to reconsider RTC-Metro common pass fares after complaints

Hyderabad: The Telangana government will review RTC-Metro common pass fares after repeated complaints from commuters. Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said officials would assess public feedback and travel needs before revising the rates.

The daily common pass costs ₹400. The Metro receives ₹300, while the RTC gets ₹100. Similarly, the monthly pass costs ₹8,500, with ₹7,000 allocated to the Metro and ₹1,500 to the RTC.

However, commuters have complained that these prices place a heavy burden on ordinary passengers. Following Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka’s suggestions, the government decided to reconsider the fare structure.

RTC-Metro common pass review to focus on affordable fares

Prabhakar said the government would soon meet senior officials to discuss the existing rates. During the meeting, officials will examine travel patterns and consider more affordable prices.

The government aims to strengthen public transport and encourage more people to use RTC buses and Metro services. Therefore, officials will explore pricing options that better suit commuters’ needs and budgets.

Prabhakar said the government would consider passenger feedback before making a decision. He stressed that the common pass should benefit commuters financially and offer greater convenience.

He also clarified that the government did not intend to impose an additional fare burden on the public. Accordingly, officials will review the pricing structure before announcing the next steps.
