Hyderabad: The Telangana government was undertaking road works worth ₹30,000 crore to strengthen Telangana road infrastructure and boost industry, business and employment, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said.
The Roads and Buildings Minister said projects worth ₹13,000 crore were being taken up through his department. Additionally, road works worth another ₹17,000 crore were being undertaken through the Panchayat Raj Department across Telangana.
Komatireddy said improved connectivity would support industrial and commercial activity. He added that the investment would create more employment opportunities for local youth.
The minister made the remarks after laying the foundation stone for road projects worth ₹219.67 crore at Garepalli in Sultanabad mandal. The projects in Peddapalli district included Hybrid Annuity Model roads and non-plan road development works.
Telangana road infrastructure gets HAM investment
Komatireddy said no other state was undertaking road development works on such a large scale. Under the HAM system, the government would bear 40% of the project cost. Meanwhile, the contractor would fund the remaining 60%, he said.
The ₹219.67-crore projects launched at Garepalli would be completed within two years, according to the minister. Ground-level work was scheduled to begin within a week of the foundation-laying ceremony.
Komatireddy also urged motorists and other road users to follow safety regulations strictly. He asked people to exercise caution while travelling to reduce the risk of road accidents.
Minister in-charge of erstwhile Karimnagar district Tummala Nageswara Rao participated in the foundation-laying programme. IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu also attended.
Government Whip Chintakunta Vijaya Ramana Rao, District Collector Koya Sri Harsha and Ramagundam MLA Makkansingh Raj Thakur joined the event.
Hyderabad-Ramagundam greenfield road discussed
Komatireddy said discussions had been held with the Union Minister on a proposed new greenfield road between Hyderabad and Ramagundam. The state would seek approval for the Sultanabad bypass as part of the proposed road, he said.
The minister also referred to the Peddapalli bypass project. He said funds for the bypass had been sanctioned within a month after the Congress government assumed office.
Work on the Peddapalli bypass was currently progressing, he added. Komatireddy alleged that the previous government had left pending bills of around ₹40,000 crore. Despite that financial position, he said, the government had continued investing heavily in Telangana road infrastructure.
Komatireddy raises Chinna Kaleshwaram project
The minister also addressed irrigation issues during his speech at Garepalli. He accused the previous BRS government of neglecting the Chinna Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.
Komatireddy said the present government had revived water pumping from the Sripada Yellampalli reservoir to support cultivation in the region. He also recalled irrigation projects constructed during former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure.
According to Komatireddy, several of those projects had remained safe and continued providing irrigation to lakhs of acres. The minister also praised Peddapalli MLA and Government Whip Vijaya Ramana Rao.
He said voters had elected a representative committed to the development of the district. Komatireddy maintained that large-scale investment in Telangana road infrastructure would improve connectivity while supporting wider economic activity and employment.
