Telangana releases ₹304 crore in pending overseas scholarship dues

Hyderabad: Minister for SC, ST and Minority Welfare Adluri Laxman Kumar announced on Thursday the release of ₹304 crore in pending overseas scholarship dues. He said the government remains committed to supporting education, even amid financial constraints.

Speaking to the media, Laxman Kumar said 2,288 students will benefit under the Overseas Education Scheme, each receiving ₹20 lakh. With this release, the total disbursement has reached ₹463 crore since 2022. The funds are being transferred directly into the students’ bank accounts.

Funds allocated to strengthen hostels and schools

In addition, the minister said ₹60 crore has been sanctioned to address urgent issues in SC, ST, BC, and Minority hostels. District Collectors and departmental secretaries are overseeing the use of these funds. He also noted that the CM Relief Fund has provided added support to hostel students during emergencies.

Laxman Kumar highlighted recent initiatives, including the launch of Young Integrated Residential Schools in all 119 constituencies. The project, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, has a total budget of ₹200 crore. He further stated that the government has raised diet charges for hostel students to improve their quality of life.

Strict focus on transparency and merit

The minister assured that only eligible students will benefit from the Ambedkar Overseas Education Fund. He thanked Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka for prioritizing student welfare and ensuring transparency in fund disbursement.

Welfare Department Chief Secretary Subhasachi Ghosh, SCDD Chief Secretary Buddha Prakash, and Commissioner Kshitija were also present at the briefing.
