Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre forecast widespread Telangana rains for the next two days under the influence of a low-pressure area. The system formed over the Bay of Bengal and could bring showers across the Telugu states.
Heavy rain is likely in Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts of North Telangana. Parts of North and northeast Telangana may also experience strong winds at 30 to 40 kmph.
Officials issued a yellow alert for the affected districts. They advised residents to remain cautious as thunderstorms and lightning are also likely during the period.
Meanwhile, rainfall remained below normal across half of Telangana even in the final week of August. The state recorded only 10.21 cm of rain against the August average of 21.58 cm until Sunday.
Telangana rains forecast comes amid August rainfall deficit
Several areas received heavy rain on Saturday and Sunday. However, the recent showers have not closed the wider rainfall deficit across the state.
The latest weather system is expected to bring more widespread rain over the next two days. Officials have urged people to remain alert in areas under the yellow warning.
The forecast covers Telangana as well as other parts of the Telugu states. Rainfall intensity is expected to vary between districts during the period.
