Telangana to compensate rain-hit farmers in Siddipet, says minister

Hyderabad: The Telangana government has launched relief efforts for farmers who suffered crop losses due to heavy rains in Siddipet district, state BC Welfare and Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said on Saturday.

He said officials identified crop damage across 5,483 acres. Of this, 3,491 farmers lost paddy across 4,844 acres. Cotton was damaged across 588 acres farmed by 393 people, and maize losses occurred in 51 acres belonging to 32 farmers.

Husnabad sees highest damage in rains

In Husnabad constituency, the worst-affected area, paddy damage spanned 3,454 acres owned by 2,565 farmers. Cotton loss was reported across 454 acres farmed by 290 individuals. Maize crops failed in 37 acres belonging to 24 farmers in Husnabad, Koheda, and Akkannapet mandals.

The minister said the state will pay ₹10,000 per acre in compensation, as declared earlier by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. This relief aims to help affected farmers recover quickly.

₹80 crore plan to rebuild damaged rural roads

In addition to crop relief, the government has planned major repair work on damaged roads and culverts. Officials prepared a detailed project report worth ₹80 crore to rebuild Panchayat Raj and R&B roads damaged by the rains. Prabhakar said the goal is to create permanent solutions that prevent future disruption.

Soaked paddy bought at MSP to protect farmers

Rain also soaked over 230 metric tonnes of paddy at the Husnabad market yard. This stock belonged to more than 100 farmers. To prevent financial loss, the government purchased the soaked paddy at the minimum support price and transported it to rice mills.
