HYDERABAD: The Telangana government has expressed strong displeasure over the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) and Godavari River Management Board (GRMB) for allegedly ignoring its complaints regarding the unauthorised execution of the Godavari-Banakacharla Link Project by the Andhra Pradesh government, in violation of tribunal awards and without necessary approvals. Telangana has demanded an immediate halt to the project works.
In letters addressed to both river boards, Telangana Engineer-in-Chief Anil Kumar reiterated the state’s objection to the ongoing construction. He pointed out that despite repeated complaints, Andhra Pradesh continues to push ahead with the project.
The letter also recalled that the Andhra Pradesh government recently issued a Government Order establishing the Jaladhara Corporation to mobilise funds for the link project. Telangana argued that this move further demonstrates AP’s intent to proceed unilaterally and urged the boards to intervene and stop the state from continuing the illegal work.
Call for Probe into GRMB Member Secretary Allegations
The Telangana government also demanded a thorough investigation into allegations of financial irregularities and employee harassment involving the Member Secretary of the GRMB. It stressed the need to uncover the truth behind these serious accusations.
In a recent GRMB meeting, it was decided to form a three-member committee comprising the KRMB member and the Chief Engineers of both states to look into the issue. Telangana has now submitted a formal letter suggesting the specific matters the committee should examine.
