Telangana Police launches landmark victim-first FIR system

Hyderabad: In a landmark step towards faster justice delivery, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar on Wednesday announced a new Victim/Citizen-Centric FIR Registration Policy. The system allows FIRs for certain crimes to be registered directly at the scene of the incident.

Speaking at an awareness session at the Telangana State Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Banjara Hills, Sajjanar said victims no longer need to visit police stations in distress. Instead, police personnel will reach them whether at home or hospital to record complaints and file FIRs immediately.

Doorstep FIR: Telangana Police prioritises victims’ dignity and comfort

Developed by Telangana CID, the new policy is now live in Hyderabad. It covers offences such as suicides, unnatural deaths, road accidents, theft, robbery, vehicle theft, crimes against women and children, and ragging.

“This initiative upholds the dignity and privacy of victims. Telangana Police is moving towards a more citizen-friendly approach,” Sajjanar noted.

He warned that any delay or negligence in enforcing the new system will lead to strict disciplinary action. If victims are still asked to visit a station without valid reason, they can report such incidents via the Hyderabad Police WhatsApp number: 94906 16555.

Clear oversight to ensure accountability

Senior officers at the ACP and DCP levels will monitor every case registered under the new system. This ensures compliance, confidentiality, and accountability at all levels.

Sajjanar also highlighted the “C-Mitra” cybercrime support platform, launched recently to assist digital crime victims.

He thanked DGP B. Shivadhar Reddy and CID Additional DGP Charu Sinha for designing and implementing this transformative policy. Their vision, he said, reflects the department’s growing focus on citizen-first policing.
