Telangana aims to emerge as national model in digital safety: Sridhar Babu

Hyderabad: Telangana is aiming to position itself as a national model in digital safety, said IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu on Thursday. He was speaking at the inaugural session of the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) Conclave 2025 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC).

The Minister stated that the ‘Telangana Rising Vision–2047’ roadmap outlines major initiatives to strengthen digital security infrastructure across the State.

Cybercrime surge prompts smarter safety strategies

Citing national statistics, Sridhar Babu noted that India recorded over 265 million cyberattacks in 2025. Telangana alone faced more than 17,000 ransomware attacks targeting critical institutions and private firms. He added that cyber offenders siphoned off more than ₹800 crore last year within the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits.

He stressed that cybercriminals are adopting evolving methods, which challenge enforcement agencies. “The focus must shift from traditional policing to intelligent, tech-enabled prevention,” he said. The State is now working on real-time monitoring systems, integrated data platforms, and open-information tools to protect citizens.

Awareness campaigns will also be introduced in schools to build a cyber-aware generation. The goal, he said, is to stay ahead of evolving digital threats and reduce vulnerabilities.

The session was attended by U.S. Consul General (Hyderabad) Laura Williams, ADGP Charu Sinha, Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty, SCSC Secretary-General Ramesh Khaja, and other senior officials.
