Hyderabad: Telangana Jagruthi has urged the state government to permit the installation of a Prof Jayashankar statue at Tank Bund in Hyderabad.
The organisation said Prof Kothapalli Jayashankar believed a separate Telangana state was the only solution to the region’s problems.
It said he dedicated his life to the Telangana movement. It also noted that he fought for statehood until his last days.
Telangana Jagruthi expressed disappointment over the absence of an official statue. It said the government had not installed one even after 12 years of Telangana statehood.
The organisation said Hyderabad should officially honour Prof Jayashankar’s contribution. It proposed installing his statue at Tank Bund.
Prof Jayashankar statue proposed before August 6
Telangana Jagruthi requested the government to grant permission for the Prof Jayashankar statue project.
The organisation also offered to maintain the greenery and surrounding area near the proposed site.
Furthermore, it urged the government to complete approvals and arrangements before August 6.
August 6 marks the birth anniversary of Prof Jayashankar.
Telangana Jagruthi said the statue would honour his contribution to the Telangana movement. It described him as one of the foremost ideologues of statehood.
