Telangana higher education model a benchmark for south: TSCHE Chairman

Hyderabad: Telangana’s higher education model has emerged as a benchmark for southern states, Telangana State Council of Higher Education Chairman Professor Balakista Reddy said on Tuesday.

Addressing a southern region roundtable meeting at NALSAR University of Law in Shameerpet, Professor Reddy said policy-based reforms strengthened the State’s higher education system. According to him, industry linkages and coordination among institutions played a major role in improving outcomes.

Referring to long-term planning, he said the Telangana Education Policy, aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, aimed to position the State as a global knowledge and innovation hub. He added that the Rising Telangana 2047 roadmap guided reforms across universities.

Highlighting challenges faced by southern universities, Professor Reddy said institutions needed fresh leadership in higher education. He also said academic governance must be reshaped to meet evolving industry needs.

Telangana higher education model stresses outcome-based collaboration

Instead of limiting efforts to formal agreements, Professor Reddy said universities should adopt a consortium approach. Through this model, he said universities, industry, and government could work together to deliver measurable results.

At the same time, he urged Telangana universities to actively partner with Canadian institutions. He assured that the Higher Education Council would extend full support for such collaborations.

Meanwhile, NALSAR Vice-Chancellor Professor Krishna Deva Rao said the university remained committed to international cooperation and research. During the meeting, Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute Director Dr Prachi Kaul outlined the organisation’s new strategies.

Around 25 Vice-Chancellors and Directors from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Telangana participated in the roundtable. They attended the meeting both in person and online.
