Metro Rail takeover in Telangana to be completed by March 2026

Hyderabad: The Telangana government set March 2026 as the deadline to complete the Metro Rail takeover from L&T, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao said on Tuesday.

During a high-level review meeting, the Chief Secretary directed officials to complete the Hyderabad Metro Rail within the current financial year. He said the process must move quickly and follow the agreement signed by the government and L&T.

He also stressed that the takeover should not disturb existing agreements. Therefore, officials were asked to carry out all planned actions in a phased manner over the next 100 days.

To speed up the process, the Chief Secretary asked the transaction advisor IDBI to submit its report at the earliest. He further instructed L&T to extend full cooperation during the Metro Rail takeover.

Metro Rail takeover to move to operations planning stage

After the Metro Rail takeover, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited Managing Director Sarfaraz Ahmad will prepare proposals on operations and maintenance. Officials said this would help ensure uninterrupted metro services.

Meanwhile, the meeting reviewed coordination among departments to avoid delays. Advisor (Urban Transport) NVS Reddy, Special Chief Secretary Vikas Raj, L&T Metro Rail Hyderabad Limited MD KVB Reddy, IDBI officials, Chief Electrical Engineer HMRL DVS Raju, and senior HMRL officers attended.

Officials said the government would closely monitor progress. They said the aim was to complete the Metro Rail takeover by the end of the financial year.
