Telangana to witness heavy rains for next two days, yellow alert issued

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall across Telangana over the next two days following the formation of a low-pressure area in the northern Bay of Bengal.

Light to moderate showers are expected across the State, with isolated areas likely to see heavy downpours, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds. A yellow alert has been issued for multiple districts.

On Thursday night, Warangal, Hanmakonda, Mahabubabad, Suryapet, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mulugu, and Jayashankar Bhupalpally districts are likely to be hit.

For Friday, the IMD has extended the yellow alert to Adilabad, Kumurambheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Hanmakonda, Warangal, Janagaon, Medak, Kamareddy, and Khammam. Gusty winds of 30–40 km/h are expected in these areas.

Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take basic safety precautions. People have been advised not to stand under electric poles, near transformers, or touch waterlogged electrical wires.

Caution was also issued for keeping animals away from electrical installations and for avoiding the use of metal objects in rescue efforts involving electric shocks. Residents were told to contact electricity officials or control rooms in case of emergencies.
