Hyderabad: Warangal West MLA Naini Rajender Reddy inspected flood-affected areas on Thursday morning after heavy rains lashed the region. He toured Gokul Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, and Sammayya Nagar, where flooding caused severe damage and hardship for residents.
Heavy rains trigger floods in Warangal
The “Montha” cyclone brought heavy to very heavy rainfall across Telangana. As a result, Warangal district recorded over 40 cm of rain in a single day. From Tuesday night to Wednesday night, continuous showers made streams and lakes overflow, leading to flash floods.
In Hanmakonda, water from Oora Cheruvu overflowed after the embankment gave way. Consequently, floodwater entered nearby colonies, and many frightened residents climbed to their rooftops to stay safe.
Rescue operations continue across flooded areas
Meanwhile, floodwaters covered 100 Feet Road, Vivek Nagar, Pragathi Nagar, Sammayya Nagar, and TNGO Colony. After receiving alerts, officials rushed to the spot with JCB machines and rescued people trapped in their homes. They also shifted families to safer places.
Rescue efforts continued on a war footing throughout Hanmakonda. City police, Disaster Response Force (DRF) personnel, and municipal workers joined hands to help affected residents. In addition, MLA Naini Rajender Reddy instructed officials to clear all obstructions blocking the water flow and to restore essential services quickly.
