Hyderabad: Telangana is likely to receive heavy rains from September 19 to 24, with widespread showers expected across its northern and southern districts. The weather department said rainfall during this period could remain above normal.
The forecast comes after the state experienced a rainfall deficit through much of the monsoon season. However, rainfall conditions are expected to improve during the final two weeks of the season.
According to the latest advance forecast, many areas in northern and southern Telangana could receive heavy rainfall through September 24. As a result, rainfall during this period could exceed normal levels.
Rainfall intensity is expected to ease during the following week. The department forecast light to moderate rains between September 25 and October 1.
Consequently, rainfall during that period could remain around normal levels. The outlook indicates improved rainfall conditions towards the end of the monsoon season.
Several districts in Telangana received heavy rain on Friday. Mahbubnagar district recorded the highest rainfall among the locations mentioned in the report.
Heavy rains recorded across Telangana districts
Hanwada mandal in Mahbubnagar district received 7.4 cm of rainfall, the highest recorded among the locations mentioned. Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district received 6.7 cm.
Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy district recorded 6 cm of rainfall. Meanwhile, Mothkur in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district received 4.9 cm.
Doulthabad mandal in Vikarabad district recorded 3.4 cm of rainfall. These showers came during the final phase of a monsoon season that had largely remained deficient.
The latest forecast suggests that heavy rains in Telangana through September 24 could push rainfall above normal for the period. Subsequently, light to moderate rains are likely from September 25 to October 1.
Rainfall during the latter period is expected to remain around normal levels. The forecast, therefore, points to improved rainfall during the closing weeks of the monsoon season.
