Hyderabad: Telangana doctors have lost nearly Rs 30 crore to cyber fraudsters over the past two years, highlighting the growing threat of online scams targeting medical professionals.
According to the Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), 735 doctors have fallen victim to cyber frauds since September 2024. The victims collectively lost Rs 29.88 crore in various online scams.
Officials said investment and business-related frauds caused the biggest financial damage. These scams alone accounted for more than Rs 22 crore in losses.
Doctors also lost money through digital arrest scams, identity theft and impersonation frauds. Fraudsters further targeted medical professionals through misleading online advertisements.

TGCSB officials said cybercriminals also used job scams, cryptocurrency frauds, UPI frauds, loan scams and sextortion schemes to target victims. TGCSB Director Shikha Goel warned that educational qualifications and professional status do not guarantee protection from cybercrime.
She advised doctors to remain cautious while responding to unknown calls, messages and online investment offers. Officials stressed that immediate reporting can improve the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering stolen money.
The bureau urged victims to report cyber financial frauds through the national helpline 1930 and the official cybercrime reporting portal without delay.
